Power Stations
The extensive features and the wide
range of options have made the InteliLine the first choice for constructors
of power stations both large and small.
At the large end of the scale the InteliSys is in widespread use
throughout the mining areas of Australia in stations ranging up
to 20 MW and higher. The ability of the InteliSys to have almost
unlimited I/O capability remote from the controller with connections
via CAN bus creates cost savings in even the most complex installations.
In addition the inbuilt programmable functions allow the most complex
control requirements to be met without the installation of additional
PLCs and controls. For the smaller power station the InteliGen is
the ideal controller and is today in use in a large number of power
stations for aboriginal communities, small towns, farms and agricultural
operations and also for smaller mining and construction projects.
Greenbird have developed a unique Complete Power Station Solution
which, in addition to an InteliSys or InteliGen on each set, incorporates
a Power Station Controller (PSC) for the monitoring and control
of all the common power station facilities (bulk tanks, fuel transfer
pumps, ventilation fans, fire system, security system etc) and the
Feeder Control Unit (FCU) which provides monitoring, protection
and control for all of the outgoing feeders in the station. Coupled
with ComAp’s extensive communications capabilities this solution
provides remote SCADA monitoring and controls of the complete power
station not just the generators.

AMF
Automatic Mains Failure
(AMF) systems are becoming more complex as the equipment and buildings
that they are designed to protect themselves become more complex.
The InteliLine is ideally suited for this challenge with a wide
range of features providing a suitable controller regardless of
the type of application.
The programmable functions of the InteliSys allow it to meet the
most complex of requirements such as large numbers of change over
contactors and multi-level load shedding. At the other end of the
scale the InteliLite AMF controller provides full AMF control at
a very low cost level.

Utility Mobile Support Systems
ComAp’s unique software and
total system design means that Greenbird Technology are the only
company able to meet the demanding requirements of the electricity
utility industry for mobile gensets able to be connected to the
grid in the filed fully automatically. Such sets are used for system
failures, during maintenance and for system support during periods
of high demand.
The “Combi” system is now in daily use by eight electricity
utilities across Australia providing greater reliability and safety
to customers through over one hundred gensets fitted with the system.

Marine Applications
The InteliLine range is ideal for
use in Marine applications and the InteliGen and InteliDrive controllers
have Marine Classification for surveyed vessels. In Australia and
New Zealand they have been chosen for patrol boats, high speed ferries,
luxury yachts and fishing vessels.
In smaller vessels the InteliLite range is also suitable and the
InteliDrive Marine is gaining acceptance for other marine applications
including the control and monitoring of propulsion engines.

Parallel with Mains Operations
Whilst still relatively unusual
in Australia and New Zealand until recently, parallel operation
with the mains is becoming increasingly popular. Whether it is to
provide greater security to owners of standby plant, to baseload
renewable powered plant against the grid, or provide CHP operation
there is an InteliLine controller to suit the application.
The InteliSys and InteliGen controllers are fully equipped, both
in hardware and software for all these application and offer a wide
range of options and choices in the nature of the operation.
Whenever a genset operates in parallel with the mains the electricity
utilities demand a high level of protection and ComAp is unique
in providing an integrated protection relay, the InteliProtec, to
meet these requirements.

Control System Upgrades
There are a very large number of
gensets in Australia, particularly AMF, that were installed in the
‘70s and ’80 (and sometimes even earlier). The engines
and alternators are often in almost “as new” condition
but the control systems are very outdated, unreliable and in many
cases spare parts are no longer available. Fitting an InteliLine
controller brings the genset up to the very latest in technology
and due to the integrated nature of the unit the conversion is very
simple, quick and economical.
Another major benefit of an upgrade with InteliLine is that it brings
to the installation modern communications technology so that the
system can be monitored via either modem, Ethernet or via Modbus
to a building management system.

Trains, Planes and Trucks
Whilst the majority of our control
systems are often firmly mounted to the floor, a portion of them
are involved in transport in a variety of ways.
The Ghan and the Indian Pacific trains, operated by Great Southern
Railways (GSR), are the world famous trains that cross our nation
from North to South and East to West. As they often away from any
possibility of maintenance for days on end reliability is of the
utmost importance. When GSR decided to upgrade the power vans on
these trains they chose InteliGen controllers to provide a whole
new level of performance, fuel saving, reliability.
Every airport has its ground power units for providing 28V DC and
400Hz power to aircraft. ComAp has developed a special version of
the InteliGen for this market with separate controls for each supply.
ComAp brings this traditionally rather old fashioned industry into
the 21st century!
Film and television crews have to travel to some of the most remote
and difficult locations and they have to take their generators with
them, often truck mounted for manouverability. Many film companies
use sets fitted with InteliGen controls and our “credits”
to date include Big Brother, McLeod’s Daughters and many of
Australia’ recent string of very successful films.

Gas Engine Systems
The highly sophisticated nature
of the InteliSys system with its high number of I/O, both analogue
and digital and the inbuilt PLC functions means that it is ideal
for the control of complex gas powered systems and applications
have been completed where the InteliSys provides the only control
system on a complex landfill gas site replacing the traditional
PLC systems.
One of the commonest applications for gas engines is in CHP (Combined
Heat and Power) and as energy costs continue to soar these types
of applications are expected to increase. The InteliSys and InteliGen
controllers are already set-up with both hardware and software for
this application ensuring an economic and rapid commissioning of
such systems using proven equipment and software.
Non-genset Applications
GAC governors and ComAp’s InteliDrive range are increasingly
leading us into providing control system solutions for non-genset
engine drive applications. Control systems have been supplied for
pumping applications, on mineral exploration drill rigs and in a
variety of marine applications.
As demands for all control systems become more sophisticated we
believe that these controllers, ranging form the economical MRS15
DCU to the highly sophisticated InteliDrive models will play an
increasing role in providing our customers with innovative control
system solutions.
